HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT OF IJCSS
The International Journal of Contemporary Security Studies (IJCSS) has a long-standing tradition of publishing scientific papers since 1995. Initially, it was titled Proceedings of the Faculty of Defense and Protection. In 2000, it was renamed Proceedings of the Faculty of Civil Defense, and in 2006, it became Proceedings of the Faculty of Security Studies, reflecting the evolving identity of the institution responsible for its publication. During this period, the journal primarily featured research from faculty members.
A significant shift occurred in 2008 when the journal broadened its editorial policy, welcoming contributions from external authors. This transition was accompanied by another name change to Annual of the Faculty of Security Studies. As the author base expanded, the quality and citation rates of published papers increased, establishing the journal as a leading national publication. In 2022, the editorial board took a strategic step by introducing a bilingual (English-Serbian) edition, facilitating international contributions and rebranding the journal as Contemporary Security Studies.
Now, in 2025—marking three decades since its inception—the journal is embarking on a new phase of growth. With a commitment to meeting the highest international standards, it will be published under its new title, International Journal of Contemporary Security Studies, reflecting its global ambitions and scholarly excellence.
