Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies Policy

International Journal of Contemporary Security Studies (IJCSS) permits responsible use of AI-assisted technologies only when scholarly accountability, confidentiality, transparency and intellectual-property obligations are preserved.

Authors

An AI system cannot be an author or co-author. Human authors remain fully responsible for every claim, citation, reference, quotation, DOI, image and dataset. They must check output for error, bias, fabrication and inappropriate reproduction. AI must never be used to invent evidence, participants, results or references.

Use that materially generated or transformed scholarly content must be disclosed in a section entitled Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process, normally before the references. The declaration should identify the tool, version, provider, access date and purpose, and describe human verification. Routine spelling or grammar correction that does not generate substantive content need not be declared. If no AI tool was used, no statement is required.

AI-generated or substantially altered images must be identified and must not misrepresent evidence. Where AI is part of the research method, authors must report prompts or protocols, model and version, settings, dates and validation sufficiently for evaluation and, where feasible, reproduction. Confidential, personal, classified or unpublished information must not be entered into systems without an appropriate legal basis and security safeguards. Authors remain responsible for copyright and licence compliance.

Reviewers

Manuscripts and reviews are confidential. Reviewers must not upload them to public or externally hosted AI services. AI cannot replace expert assessment or compose an undisclosed review. Any permitted local or institutionally approved assistance must preserve confidentiality and be transparently reported to the editor.

Editors

Editors must not upload unpublished submissions to public AI tools. Editorial decisions may not be delegated to AI. Limited technical assistance may be used only with appropriate safeguards and human oversight; the responsible editor remains accountable.

Model declaration

“During preparation of this work, the authors used [tool, version, provider; access date] for [purpose]. The authors reviewed and edited the output and accept full responsibility for the published content.”
